The first solution is to completely abolish the death penalty. Many people would argue that the death penalty is pointless because it does not teach criminals anything. People are able to learn from their mistakes when they're put in jail but if they are executed from the death penalty, they do not have the chance to learn anything. People would also argue that the death penalty doesn't act as a good model for citizens.
If the justice system wants people to stop committing acts of murder, then they should not do the same. It is very hypocritical to ask people to stop murduring, but when they do, their punishment is murder. It does not give people a good role model to follow after. A final reason for the death penalty to be abolished is becasue being put in jail can be harsh enough. Inmates are stuck in a holding cell for hours on end with nothing to do and no one to talk to. Isn't that punish enough? |
